School standards on appearance
To maintain a safe and respectful learning environment, Saint James School enforces certain standards on hairstyles and what people can wear.
Appropriate clothing
Your child must wear sensible shoes and clothes for school. The following are not considered appropriate:
- Fashion shoes.
- Trainers.
- Boots.
- Excessively long, short or tight-fitting skirts.
- Sun-tops.
- Sports shorts.
- Hot pants.
- Jeans.
- Jogging bottoms.
- Leggings.
- Cargo-style trousers.
Hairstyles and accessories
- Please keep to sensible hairstyles and accessories.
- Ensure long hair is tied back tidily and does not interfere with work or become a danger during P.E. sessions.
- Hair must be a natural shade.
- Accessories such as JoJo hair bands, large ribbons and decorative clips are not permitted.
- We recommend small, simple hair elastics and clips, preferably in school colours, that are discrete and practical.
Jewellery
We do not allow rings, bracelets, necklaces or chains to be worn in school as they can cause accidents in the playground or classroom.
This includes jewellery or accessories of any faith which are not to be worn in school.
Small stud earrings may be worn. Any child wearing earrings which may constitute a hazard in P.E. will be asked to remove them or cover them with tape, supplied by the parent.
A small sensible watch may be worn, providing it does not cause a distraction and is removed for P.E. lessons.
